Consumers in the Lone Tree & Denver area are receiving official-looking forms that declare “You may be a plaintiff in a national mass joinder suit.”  The mailing implies that fraud may have occurred when you financed your home, and that the author of the mailing can assist you in seeking restitution.  The form explains that you might be eligible to “become a joined named plaintiff in a national lawsuit that will seek, among other things, to void your note(s), to give you your home free and clear, and/or to award you relief and monetary damages.”  In each case, the notice contains the name of the company that currently holds the mortgage on the recipient’s home.  While this may tend to provide credibility to the notice, that information is easily obtained from public records.

In order to determine if violations were committed by the consumer’s mortgage company, a $995.00 fee is required to generate a “violations report”.  The potential victim is assured that if no violations are found, their deposit will be refunded in full.

The District Attorney’s Office believes these mailings are a scam, and recommends that anyone receiving this mailing not respond.  The perpetrators are alleged to have copied another business’ website, and are using the phony website to collect fraudulent fees.  This is just another example of the need to investigate any offer or solicitation, no matter how legitimate it may appear.  In today’s world, you cannot depend on appearance alone to determine if something is legitimate.

A whole new fresh look for C-470 is being talked about by the commissioners from Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties and officials from Lone Tree, Greenwood Village, Centennial and Parker were attending the coalition meeting.

C-470 is always congested and officials are thinking of ways on how to make things easier for the motorists. Toll lanes or new taxes are being discussed to ease the burden of those who are using the road.

There were recommendations of construction of express toll lanes on a nearly 14-mile stretch of C-470 between Interstate 25 and South Kipling Parkway. This was done 5 years ago by Colorado Department of Transportation.

The proposal projected costs of $325 million, but this received negative responses from opposition, local residents and government officials. Other officials did their own study and estimated costs at only $50 million.  Neither one of them prevailed nothing was ever done.

A new meeting was formed for the officials to make this project happen. This time officials are willing to collaborate and execute the project for the convenience of the commuters.

If no lanes are added, people can expect heavy traffic and the situation will get worse. C-470 needs to be fixed – this seems to be the only solution to end the traffic.

Drivers passing through I-25 near C-470 in Lone Tree on the early morning of Feb 4 noticed that the interstate highway was getting slick and driving was becoming a bit of a challenge.  It was an accident waiting to happen and before 8:00AM what officers feared had come true. Two cars collided with each other in the interstate stretch near C-470 causing  traffic to slow down to a snail’s pace. Most of the motorist were not only worrying about being late for work, but more so they were worrying about the conditions of the road which were getting more icy and slippery by the minute. In fact in just a span of a few minutes another accident happened in the southbound lane of I-25.

Ryan Drake of CDOT reported several minor accidents, both northbound and southbound, resulting from the icy condition of the I-25. Drake also warned motorists “It’s extremely slick, and it would be a good idea if everyone would just slow down.”  Michelle Kivela, Lone Tree city manager announced that they were forced to close the interstate road to traffic to ensure motorist’s safe passage. Fortunately the Colorado Department of Transportation was able to clean out the accident and sand the road in a short time, quickly opening the I-25 in less than 30 minutes before it caused more delay. The traffic quickly returned to normal, albeit motorists were driving slowly and carefully.

9News of Denver visited a Lone Tree Walgreens and interviewed Pharmacist Lisa Condon about Flu shots.  The Center for Disease Control is advising that “everyone older than six months” get vaccinated this season.

“There was an issue last year. They ran out of flu vaccine, and so they want to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to get vaccinated,” Condon said.

William L. Walters, a former Lone Tree day-trader, has been extradited from Argentina to face charges in Colorado for running an illegal Ponzi scheme.

Walters, 45, used his collected more than $23 million from his victims between January 2001 to July 2006 according to the Denver Business Journal article by Renee McGaw.

Dr. Grady Holder

Dr. Grady Holder, 52, blames alcoholism as he apologizes to Lone Tree nurse he stabbed at Sky Ridge Medical Center on February 13th.  The stabbing left Brenda Tate with wounds to her upper arm.

Prosecutors said that Dr. Holder was not responsible for his actions due to his disturbed mental state while receiving treatment for alcoholism in the Sky Ridge Intensive Care Unit.  Last week they announced that he would not face criminal charges.
